This Week At School

by Stephanie on October 8, 2010

My girls were officially on their own this week. On Tuesday they were okay. The teachers didn’t report much, but I noticed their snacks had gone uneaten, and they were rather glum on the way home from school. I planned to take them out to buy cupcakes and a pumpkin but they said that they wanted to go home. This was followed by Sophie saying, “Don’t go, Mama.”

At home, we ate lunch (chocolate sandwiches i.e. nutella and strawberry jam, their favorite).

Sarah started snoozing upright in her chair, so I plopped my poor exhausted piggy on the couch.

And Sophie said she wanted to go night-night up in her room. I was feeling a bit drowsy too so I thought that for once I’d permit myself to “nap when they nap.”

But I was foiled again…all she wanted to do was say cheese. So we took a bunch of snuggly pictures.

{Ahahahahahahaha nap when they nap? Me? My kids? Really? I crack myself up at the thought.}

On Thursday, I went home after dropping them off, and half and hour later I received a phone call from the preschool. Oh great, I said to myself. But this time, the director was happy to report some good news…they did their sharing and are washing their hands as we speak. And looking into their snack boxes, they ate most of it this time. What a victory!

I was so thrilled that I went around the corner from my house and did this:

I decided to forgo my usual it-lasts-longer pale pink and went with this purply brown. It’s called Minky Muffs (by Essie). What ultimately sold me was the name, of course. Lo Gung would later ask me if I had ever gotten my toes done before, which shows he never noticed said pale pink. The girls said I had chocolate on my toes.

I went to pick up my girls who were patiently waiting on the bench for their names to be called. When it was their turn to get up, they came to me and Sarah said “Mama, you’re here! Look at my zebra sticker!” but Sophie unfortunately said “Don’t go Mama” again, followed by a solemn “My rhino sticker is here, but my lion sticker is goooone.”

So we went to Michael’s to hunt for more stickers. They finally settled on dinosaur stickers. We stood in line to pay, where they growled like dinosaurs the whole time. RRRaaaaarrrrr!

Even though they’re still screaming bloody murder when I drop them off, they have come a long way in the last week and I’m really proud of them. I suspect the morning drop-off will still be a problem for a while, so I apologize to the teachers, kids, mothers, and neighbors within a 20-mile radius. Thank you for bearing with us.

I leave you with some pictures of their at-school masterpieces.

So happy to hear things are improving at preschool. It will take some time for the initial crying to cease, but if the director called to report good news, rest assured that your girls are in a great program!

Trying to nap when you kids nap is like asking them to wake up! It’s crazy!

Glad school is going better…and WTG momma for getting a well deserved pedi!

Minky Muffs is a really cute name. So glad they’re adjusting well! I wouldn’t mind a dinosaur sticker. I’m just saying that you’ve never given me one. That’s all.
