Craft Tutorial: Decoupage Kid’s Art Beads and Dress-Up Necklaces

by Stephanie on June 2, 2010

Like all kidful households, we’ve got a mountain of paper with crayon scribbles and I just can’t bring myself to throw it out. So I took a little bit of it to make decoupage kids’ art beads, from which I made a fun dress-up necklace for each of my girls plus two for myself!

These are so great! They would make perfect stocking stuffers. Would you be willing to post this on my stocking stuffer share-a-long (or give me permission to post it)? I just started my list yesterday and this would make a perfect addition to the little list that is forming. You can check out the list here:

Love the design of your blog, by the way. It's so clean and fresh feeling!

Hi, Steph – this is genius. Using kid scribbles as bead art – what a fantastic idea. This is a great tutorial, too, because getting paper onto round beads is not easy. Your method very helpful. I’m gonna make these! (I also love the 2-sided velvet ribbon.) Keep blogging, more craft tutorials please, if you can find the time.

I used your tutorial and covered wooden beads with some of my daughter’s first drawings. They came out so beautifully and she gets so excited whenever I wear the necklace! She’s about to turn two and she loves to tell people she helped make it. I just posted photos: http://www.prettylittleprojects.com/post/1137829827/beautiful-beads
Thanks for the great idea!!

what a wonderful idea! I adore paper beads. Adore them! And I like the way you added clusters of tiny pearls between the larger paper covered beads. Very sweet and bohemian chic too :)
